Firmware Engineer

Firmware Engineer. A Colchester based computer products firm require a Firmware Engineer to work with their hardware designers during design to specify the product, particularly during the prototyping stage to get the product working. This often involves the development of new special-purpose test software. The Firmware Engineer will also back up the technical support engineers when problems arise in the field or in their in-house production test area. The Firmware Engineer will also develop and maintain the PC BIOS, IPMI and diagnostics firmware.

As the job develops, the engineers are also likely to be involved in:

· Design and development of system and device driver software for many standard operating systems.

· Porting and testing of the operating systems on new hardware platforms.

· Design and development of operating system based test and other software.

The Firmware Engineer will be an engineering graduate with practical experience in C, PL/M or other block-structured high-level languages, preferably for the Intel 80x86 family as well as diagnostics, bootloader or PC BIOS development. Ideally the Firmware Engineer will also have experience in VxWorks, QNX or other real-time operating systems, Windows or Linux / Unix device drivers or system (kernel level) software. The Firmware Engineer will need a solid understanding of hardware.
