Engineering Technician



Engineering Technician. A Colchester based computer products firm require an Engineering Technician to join their team.

The Engineering Technician role will involve a variety of tasks including some electronic assembly and modification work down to 0402 size components. Liaison with the manufacturing group when more complex changes are required (e.g. BGA rework), fault finding of computer hardware to component level, performing product validation testing. this could be on the bench e.g. measuring current consumed by the product or it could be in a temperature controlled chamber, measuring the temperature of chip dies to ensure they are within specification. Setting up test environments for either hardware or software tests, including operating system software installation. Organising the lab to make it easy for all engineers to find things quickly and easily. Maintaining the equipment and benches, and dealing with broken or malfunctioning items (repair or replacement). Creation and maintenance of new hardware test fixtures. Creation and maintenance of new software test programs or scripts.

The Engineering Technician should have at least an ONC/OND (or equivalent) with practical experience of most or all of the following:

1. PTH/SMT assembly/rework, down to 0402 size components.

2. Digital electronics, including use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes and digital multimeters (DVMs).

3. Fault finding on micro-processor based boards.

4. Use of PCs and their operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), including installation.

5. Installation and fault-finding of microcomputer system software.

The Engineering Technician should also have an ability to organise their own work, show good interpersonal skills and ideally have good practical skills.

The Engineering Technician will be able to negotiate salary around £20k plus benefits
